We want to strengthen the immune system, especially in the transition or the cold wintertime. In addition to a healthy diet and sufficient exercise, you can also enhance your immune system with a real booster: the ginger shot.

It’s best to always have one of the alcohol-free, super healthy glasses in the morning – that gives you a real kick. Some ginger shot fans even report that the energy boost from the spicy drink even makes morning coffee superfluous.

But that’s one of the things with ginger. Either you love it, or you hate it. But everyone who has got used to its taste can benefit from its positive effects.

In the meantime, the healthy root can be found in every supermarket and no longer the strange exotic fruit that one does not dare to approach. In Asian cuisine, ginger provides that exceptional taste that turns every dish into a trip to the Far East.

Hot infused, many people sip it as tea as soon as the cold season has started. Year-round drinkers know about ginger’s health effects and like to drink ginger water from time to time.

How Do Ginger Shots Work?

Of course, it always depends on the recipe, but the classic ginger shot contains ginger, lemon, honey and turmeric. The main ingredient, ginger, is a natural miracle tuber and, thanks to the essential oils it has, works really well, especially for colds.

By the way, ginger also helps against nausea. But the other root, turmeric, also called turmeric, is an essential component of Ayurvedic medicine and is considered a natural antibiotic there.

The task of the lemon seems to be well known, here again as a reminder – the citrus fruits are the absolute supplier of vitamin C par excellence. If you add honey to sweeten it, you have another natural treasure with you. Honey, New Zealand Manuka, in particular, has healing and antibacterial properties.

Ginger shots are also increasingly available in smoothie bars or bottles in supermarkets or online. The cheaper alternative: You can easily mix the wonder drink yourself.

You need:

  • 1 large bulb of ginger
  • 2 lemons
  • 1 orange
  • 1 piece of turmeric (2 cm)
  • Honey, maple or agave syrup to taste

And This Is How It Works:

Peel the ginger and turmeric and cut them into small pieces. Put in the juicer with the citrus fruits. If you don’t have one, use the mixer. Add the ginger and turmeric pieces. Squeeze citrus fruits and add a little more juice, if necessary, to turn into a pulp. Puree everything finely. For sweetening, you can stir in some honey, maple or agave syrup according to your taste.

If you like it a little fruity, you can add a bit of fruit juice or half an apple to all variants; this reduces the spiciness.

In a resealable bottle, the ginger shot can be kept in the refrigerator for around a week. 2 cl every day is sufficient. It shouldn’t be much more, especially if you have a sensitive stomach.

If you can’t get enough of the concentrated load of energy and want to get everything out of your ginger shot, you can also try the matcha ginger shot variant. For this, you simply do without additional juice in the recipe and mix the ginger mixture with mixed matcha. Well, get it!
